New Year's Nine update

Our New years eve litter is now 8 months old and everyone is doing well. We have set up a Facebook page for our families to upload photos and share story's about their pups.

Mazi loves hiking and going to school with Morgan. Mazi weighed 43 lbs the last time she went to the vet.

Mazi
Gracie loves her brother Boog. (Boog is actually mom Jada's brother from the same litter). Gracie is also in the 40's weight wise and will probably be about the same size as her mom, 58 - 63 lbs.

Gracie & Boog

Gracie
Allie came and stayed with us for three weeks this summer while her people were away on vacation. She also has a brother Winston. Winston is a yellow lab and is Jada's mother Sally's brother. Allie loves to swim and will just jump in and swim around in circles. Allie is the biggest of the girls at approximately 50 lbs already.
Allie
One day while we were taking a boat ride Allie and Mazi decided to try and jump off the boat while we were moving. The just could not understand why we were so upset with them, they just wanted to go swimming!

Allie
Beans also loves the water which her big brother Chili is not crazy about.  Bean's is in the 40's weight wise.

Beans
I just love this photo of Chili and Bean's snuggling together when she was still little. Chili is a yellow lab and is from the same breeder as the litters dad; Rocket.

Chili & Beans
Two of Bean's litter sisters; Molly and Maggie live with her grandparents so they get to see each other all the time. We took Mazi and Gracie to visit one day with all three of them.

Morgan also took Mazi and Allie over to play one day by kayak.

Remi has a big sister; Roxy who is a Rotti and a real big sister baby Ash who just loves her puppies. Remy is a big boy as you can see in this picture with Roxy, they don't really fit in the crate together anymore.

Riley is the biggest of the litter weighing in at 72 lbs! His photo was taken by the Concord Monitor at White's park doggie social time. This one is is of Riley and his human mom.

We don't currently have any puppies but are thinking about another litter in the summer of 2012.

What to do when puppies cry at night - Week 8

One of the most frustrating things about bringing home a new puppy can be the lack of sleep you will get for the first few weeks. The puppy is used to instant comfort from its mother and litter mates and it will take some time for it to learn to comfort itself. There are a few things you can do to help them settle in. Remember puppies cry and may for up to two or three weeks. This is NORMAL. It will get easier as time goes by so don't fall into the "take me onto the bed" habit or you will have a bedmate for life.

1. Make sure the crate is not too big. While you will want a crate that is large enough for your grown dog it will be too large for your puppy. To make the crate smaller put a box or laundry basket in the back of the crate but be aware it will be chewed on!

2. If you have one of the wire crates put a blanket or quilt over it to create a "den" but leave the door uncovered so they can see out.

3. Locate the crate in your bedroom for the first few weeks if you can so that you can reassure the puppy during the night verbally. If you don't have room for the crate use a night light near the crate so they can see a bit of what is around them. They may not be used to the dark. Many puppies have had a "warming" light in the crate and have not been alone in the dark before.

4. If you have an older dog, place the crate near the older dog for company and comfort.

5. Tire the pup by playing for a while just before bed and take outside just before putting them in the crate for the night. Do not feed or water just prior to saying goodnight.

6. If your pup was sent home with a blanket or toy from the breeder as we do, wash the blanket and toy after a few days. Also bathe the pup to remove the "pack" smell and to get them used to "your" smell.

Most of our "New Year's" puppies have gone to their new homes. They are eight weeks old and we have two still at home with us. Mazi will be going home in mid March is being crated separately from Gracie although their crates are side by side. The still cry a bit when put to bed and would prefer to be in the same crate. We are preparing them for the coming separation now by doing this now so it is easier later.

Three Puppies still available

These two females are still available.
Miss Green is spunky and full of fun. She loves to play with a ball or rope toy.
Miss Rose is independent and will be a great hiking companion as she loves to go, go go. She is sweet but not a push over and will hold her own with other dogs.

Puppies will be ready to go on February 26th and already are eating dry kibble and drinking from a water bowl. They have moved up to a community crate with an attached exercise pen.

For more information about these puppies please email deckerdeeann@gmail.com.

Jada's first litter is here!

Jada's puppies came New Year's Eve afternoon, 9 total, 7 girls and 2 boys, all black! She started to show true signs of labor around 9am including panting and by 1pm she had delivered her first puppy. She didn't exactly know what to do at first but by #3 she was a pro! Anyone interested in a puppy can check back to the blog for more information.
